What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy uses play as a natural way for children to learn about themselves and the environment they're in. Play therapy differs from regular play in that the therapist helps the child come to his or her own conclusions in regards to resolving their problems. Through this play, children can learn to express themselves better, communicate in a healthy way, change their behavior, develop many critical thinking skills, and relate better to the people around them. The play serves as a cushion for their problems and allows them to appropriately express themselves and learn through it.

Play Therapists are Mental Health Professionals who have earned a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and have received specialized training and supervision in the practice of Play Therapy.

Parenting

How you make sense of your own childhood experiences has a profound effect on how you parent your own children. Becoming a parent, we have the opportunity to make sense of our childhood experiences and grow. By making sense of our own childhoods, we have the opportunity to bring choice to our daily interactions with our children. Children need to be enjoyed and valued, not managed. When we are too busy doing things for our children, we forget how important it is to simply be with them. Sharing the joy of living is at the heart of a rewarding parent- child relationship.

"When we are preoccupied with the past or worried about the future, we are physically present with our children but are mentally absent.” Daniel J. Siegel, M.D.

Parenting starts with working on our own issues. Being a parent, I have a deep understanding of the challenges of parenting and am very passionate to help parents with parenting skills to better deal with their children's challenging situations.
